Series 5: Episode 3

On Air 23rd May 2009
Episode 3 of the fifth series of Discover Downunder marks a big welcome back to Dean Allen Craig. Dean is a founding member of team Downunder and this episode he is in his element surrounded by the vastness of Rockhampton.

Rocky as it is known to locals and tourists alike is spectacular and so large that it will take three episodes to fully tell the tale of the tour. In this first part we start at a place called Yeppoon, which is around 40 k’s from Rocky. While there Dean dropped in on a fella who makes all that is old new again, no not a plastic surgeon, this gent repairs and restores carriages. And it then follows that his showroom is known as the horse and carriage. What he has done to restore a slice of yesteryear is fabulous. A person with a passion is a formidable force, and this guy is nothing short of inspirational. It is clear to see that Dean was quite overcome with the detail of the work and the scope of the projects.

Now just between us, our Dean likes to get his teeth into the assignments the Discover Downunder office select for him. It is little wonder then that he derived so much pleasure from the Koorana Crocodile farm. WOW, is one word that could be used to describe these throw backs to the Dinosaurs. Such force and such power. Watch as some of the crocs are fed, the audience is treated to some information, and the owner of the place stops in for a chat. Watching these guys feed is just plain spooky, they are cold calculating beasts and you better believe that Dean is on his toes the whole segment through, although as always he appears cool and in control, ahhh the magic of Television.

Lodgings for the evening are at the Island View Caravan Park which is a member of the Top Tourist Park chain. Take a closer look at the luxury of the cabins that the owners themselves have designed, be swept away with the tropical beauty and most of all make certain that you participate in the rockin’ Kareoke sessions com enight fall.

To round out part 1 of the trip in and around Rockhampton, Dean leads the team to the Blackwater Coal Centre. Interactivity is the order of the day and it is really a place where you learn by doing. The whole region has been enriched by their supply of coal and this centre lays out the facts in a fun and informative fashion.

Our RV in focus this week is the Q2 Signature Series from Supreme, which is a touch of pure on the road luxury. They have even found room to equip the van with two doors, breaking up the living and sleeping areas. We give you another look at the Kimberley Kamper one lucky viewer is set to win, show you what is on offer on our website, plus more.

Enjoy.
