Tasmania lies 240 kilometres south of Victoria separated from the mainland by the treacherous waters of the Bass Strait. A land of wild, mountainous and beautiful landscapes with a temperate climate that produces quality cool-climate wines and food. More than 40 per cent of the island is protected as World Heritage Area, national parks and reserves. Tasmaina is rich with unique flora and fauna and offers some of Australia’s finest wilderness walks. The state capital and largest city is Hobart with its historical buildings, the River Derwent, its harbour attractions and intriguing convict past. Hobart is an ideal base to tour southern Tasmanian.
