The Northern Territory is a federal territory occupying much of the centre and north of the Australian continent. It is home to rich wetlands, wild rainforests and thundering waterfalls. And the climate is so varied that the local Aboriginal people recognise six seasons in World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. The region, like the rest of the Top End Top has a tropical climate, with a wet season and a dry season. One of the most sparsely settled environments on the planet it includes the renowned Uluru (Ayers rock) in the red centre and Darwin, the capital, on the Timor sea.
