Much information is available on the internet on Weight Distribution Hitches that are available in various shapes and sizes, depending on the weight of the caravan that you tow.
In my search for an easier option I have come across an Airsafe Weight Distribution Hitch which has a tow weight of 3500Kg and a towball downweight of 350Kg.
Seems to me a very "set and forget" unit with no chains or adjustments to make once set up.
Can anyone tell me if they have used one, how they found it and a comparison with the Hayman Reese or Putnam type units.
many thanks johnv, Ballarat, Vic

I have purchased one and returned it 2 days later, with 100PSI in it, the maximum allowed, it would not hold the van level and was slanted downhill at 45 degrees. The supplier in Ballarat, happily exchanged it for a Putnam Weight Distribution Hitch, similar to a Hayman Reese WDH. So far we have travelled 11,000 KM with our van with no problems. The Airsafe was a good idea!?

Johnv, Do you have the name of the Putnam distributor in Ballarat?

Go Towin (Peel St) are the distributors in Ballarat, due to a lift in my suspension I have had to have a longer leg (shank)made for it, however it is an excellent unit with a solid steel shank not pressed & welded metal.
We have been on the road since November and have had quite a few caravanners comment on it and the fact that it places the towball further away from the vehicle than the Hayman Reese equivalent, which is the most popular brand sold in Australia.
This extra "projection" has allowed front mounted bicycles without them coming into contact with the vehicle when turning.
There are several other brands similar to Putnam all made in the States sold through various 4WD outlets online.

Its my intention to purchase a Hayman Reese WDH and have seen the odd one on e-bay for a couple of hundred dollars less than new retail. Just wondering, do these things wear or fatigue? I can understand a few scratches and even some surface rust but apart from that, they look very sturdy. Any feedback?

G'day mate, Hayman Reese WDH hitches are the common most sold unit in Australia. You can purchase parts for them at virtually every caravan and trailer dealer. IF there are no damaged parts and IF there are no missing parts you cannot go wrong. Go and have a look at a brand new one and compare with the photos of the seller, remember "caveat emtpor" (let the buyer beware!)
