Woke up this morning in the truck rest stop to find trucks all around us... very funny being in the middle of them all. By the time we were ready to leave most of them had left as well.Â
I was desperate for the loo and we had decided to go to McDonalds for breakfast for a treat so left pretty much as soon as we were all dressed, it was only a few kilometres back to town. Had pancakes for breakfast and let the kids play on the playground there while we had a coffee.
After breakfast we took the car and van through a car wash so we could scrub off a heap of locusts which had flown into the front of the van as we were worried they would stain if left there for too long. I have forgotten to mention before now just how bad the locusts were after Renmark, we actually stopped at Bunnings in Mildura and bought some fly wire to put over the front grill of the car as we were worried that the locusts would block the radiator. The guy in Bunnings said that they would get worse as we travelled east.
After washing the front of the van we went to the Information Centre to get some brochures and let the kids play on the playground which was located in the park behind us as it was still early.
Once everyone was ready we jumped in the car and drove the 20 odd kilometres out to "The Dish" as we were keen to look around there. Well worth the effort as the dish is very interesting, and the centre there very informative. Bought the kids a commemorative gold coin there for $2 each and an antique style pencil sharpener in the shape of a NASA rocket, it entertained them in the car the rest of the day.
Drove on to Dubbo and booked into the Big 4 Dubbo Parklands Holiday Village. A nice clean park with good facilities, but we were placed on a corner site that wasn't very level and had extremely high kerbs for us to get up and it was a very small site. A couple came in a bit after us in a motorhome and the driver nearly reversed through our awning, luckily we were there to shout out and stop him. The side of the motorhome was only a foot or so away from our awning and there was a tap right in the middle of where our awning area was so the hoses from the neighbours ran through our site.... not sure that we were too impressed with that as we are used to parks with nice open sites.
Not far to go to the BBQ area and ammenties, a nice pool area and the jumping pillow.Â
I must also add that they also threw in a few unpowered tents in behind us in the grassy area that didn't seem big enough for them to fit comfortably between us and the jumping pillow, all in all it felt a bit cramped.
