New Commers to the Block

Author:Shazzy MayCreated:14/04/2008
Hi there we are newbies to the world of caravanning we have bought ourselves an old style caravan (Jurgen) just over 11ft long and we are doing it up, but maintaining its original character. My children now call us ma and pa kettle. We are venturing out with it for the first time on the Anzac long weekend, and going by the beach at Brighton. Looking forward to many travels and will use our little van for our South Australian adventures. We can't wait.

Sorry its been awhile
By Shazzy May on26/02/2009
Well I have been very slack indeed in keeping everyone posted with our various adventures we have been busy travelling all around our State and then did a couple of weeks to Tasmania (very beautiful) and we only got to see a small section just loved Port Arthur, we will be going back there one day in the not too distant future to further explore. We recently went to Murray Bridge and stayed (had a swap meet to attend) and as usual we mixed business with pleasure, its quite a nice town and I being a Riverland girl just love the Murray River. Anyway we still have our old Jurgen van but have just also bought ourselves a larger one (12'6") stop laughing it is bigger than our Jurgen and it is a Jayco Freedom Pop Top, we are planning on travelling from January next year (working / holiday) not sure for how long and where we will start, but somewhere cooler for our hot summers, we will work that out in the near future, al lot to plan for the big trip and we still want to do small trips as well. Our next one is ...

A Weekend In Williamstown
By Shazzy May on25/08/2008
Hi everyone out there, thanks for the comments on our little adventures it is always nice to know someone is reading them. We had a weekend in Williamstown and did some bushwalking around the place and a drive as well, lovely little bakery in the town itself, had a nice delicious country pie, the bash cars were in town on the Saturday but unfortunately we only got to see the tail enders. Not overly impressed with the caravan park, don't get me wrong the owners / caretakers were very friendly but the park itself didn't have "a feel" about it and there was far too much possum poo and wee smell around our site for my liking, I don't think I could have stayed for longer than a night. Some caravan parks have a lovely feel about the place and others don't, for us anyway, not sure how other people judge their stays, the facilities were clean and tidy so I couldn't fault that, it is only a small park nestled in amongst the trees which sounds nice enough but it didn't do it for us. On the Sunday we went ...

Moonta Bay
By Shazzy May on7/08/2008

We travelled to Moonta Bay in July for a few days of R&R, what an absolutely delightful caravan park they have there, it is one of the cleanest we have come across, so neat and tidy and quite. Mind you we went during the week and left on a Saturday. The weather was delightful no rain while we were there, cold nights but it is winter. We both got a book read and even had a Willy Wagtail come and sit on our knee whilst reading we were one with nature. We did try some fishing but had no luck. We took the bikes with us and did the heritage trail and that was an enjoyable day out, we would have liked to have done the train ride they have but it was closed. Oh well we will have to just go back another day. We were very surprised as to amount of housing construction happening in the region and I'm talking a lot of housing, not sure where all these people are going to find work and it might make the seaside too busy but at the moment Moonta Bay is a delightful quiet place. I can highly recommend it.& ...

Kapunda Trip
By Shazzy May on22/06/2008
Shazzy May and Co finally got to go to Kapunda on the long weekend in June and what a delightful caravan park they have there. It is a very laid back park but that is what we like and there is plenty of bird life because of all the trees around the park. The vistior information centre is also an excellent place full of wonderful information and great staff. We took our push bikes this time and had great fund riding around the area. The weather was kind to us on the Saturday for our ride around the area. Sunday was overcast but still very pleasant and we again ventured out on the push bikes and had a barby at the park. When it did rain we ventured into the museum there and what a delight it is one of the best museums we have been to and spent nearly three hours there taking in all they had absolutely brilliant and if anyone is going to Kapunda please take the time to visit this place and it also a great price to enter will fit anyones budget. Monday we packed up and then went for a drive to ...

First Trip
By Shazzy May on29/04/2008
Well our first trip to Brighton was a success, our old little van did us proud, (even though some people laughed at it) there are only a few things we will change inside the van. We did not get in each other's way at all and it felt very natural to us to be in the van. The caravan park we stayed at was right on the beach front, and was clean with reasonable facilities and not too expensive. We enjoyed the walk along the beach on both days (one day in between the rain). We were lucky enough to spot a dolphin as we were walking along the Brighton Jetty. It was stormy and wet on and off on the weekend but we did enjoy the R & R and the fish and chips by the beach. I actually think the beach is the best place to be in the cold and wet. We are now planning our next jaunt which at this stage looks like Kapunda in May sometime.

Newbies
By Shazzy May on20/04/2008
Hello we are newbies to the caravan world, we love travelling and bought ourselves an old round style caravan (Jurgen) and have been renovating it, it is still a work in progress but it is at the stage where we can use it and we are going on our first trip this coming long weekend to Brighton Caravan Park. We have even given the caravan a name Daisy (my children now call us Ma & Pa). Looking forward to some wonderful trips in Daisy to discover parts of South Australia. It is great to be a tourist in your own state, will post our little adventures here and hopefully some time soon a photo or two.
