decisions decisions!!!
happydays future travellers By happydays on28/06/2010 3:21 p.m.
Hi all. It's been a while since I have been on here & still havn't bitten the bullet & taken to the road. We went to the caravan & motorhome show in Brisbane & saw just so many vans. Home again now & trying to sieve through all my info. Bit dissapointed I didn't see a Humpback van as this is one van I'm really interested in. I can't even find anywhere I can go look at one apart from Melbourne & thats too far away for us NSW country folk.If anyone out there can help me I would really appreciate it.  I did get a lot of info on working around Aussie so hopefully hubby will decide he is as keen as me soon. I've decided to give us 12 months to get organised so if anyone would like to share their experience or insight with some info or advice it would be most welcome. Have spoken to a number of people & got some great ideas so hopefully things will work out for us. I guess I'm just worried about work as we are only in our early 50's so have a long way to ...

caravans Jayco
happydays future travellers By happydays on24/04/2010 9:47 a.m.
Hi, we have been checking out caravans & there are a few we like. The Jayco sterling is one because we like the idea of the expanding sides for more living space. Does anyone out there have any feedback on these or any other recommendations for vans. We had hoped to get to the show in Sydney but couldn't make it as we live out west. Hope to hear from all the lucky people who are on the road living the good life. One day we will be there too I hope. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Day 4 Parkes to Dubbo
Our Queensland Holiday By jasmel05 on18/04/2010 12:00 a.m.

Woke up this morning in the truck rest stop to find trucks all around us... very funny being in the middle of them all.  By the time we were ready to leave most of them had left as well.Â

I was desperate for the loo and we had decided to go to McDonalds for breakfast for a treat so left pretty much as soon as we were all dressed, it was only a few kilometres back to town.  Had pancakes for breakfast and let the kids play on the playground there while we had a coffee.

After breakfast we took the car and van through a car wash so we could scrub off a heap of locusts which had flown into the front of the van as we were worried they would stain if left there for too long.  I have forgotten to mention before now just how bad the locusts were after Renmark, we actually stopped at Bunnings in Mildura and bought some fly wire to put over the front grill of the car as we were worried that the locusts would block the radiator.  The guy in Bunnings s ...

Day 3 Arrival at Parkes
Our Queensland Holiday By jasmel05 on17/04/2010 12:00 a.m.
Arrived at Parkes late this afternoon to our nominated free camp site.... a shared truck stop on the side of the highway just north east of the town, literally on the side of the highway.  We pulled up behind a motor home and spoke to the couple inside who had spent the night at the same site the night before as well and said it was fine.  Plenty of trucks pulling up around us for a rest, pretty noisy from the road as well and a bit unnerving being in a rest stop.  There is a toilet available there but I nearly vomited as I went into the cubicle to find plenty of mess and flies all over the seats and floor in both the male and female toilets, decided I could not use the toilets!!!!  Cooked our dinner and went straight to bed, tired from all the driving!

Day 3 - Hay to Parkes
Our Queensland Holiday By jasmel05 on17/04/2010 12:00 a.m.

Woke up this morning and what a lovely free camp site, we will definitely be back here again if we come through Hay.  The campsite is right on the banks of the Murrimbidgee River and there are heaps of table under shade and an open area and a sandy bank (beach) on the river where the kids had lots of fun playing in the sand and throwing hard clumps of sand into the river.  If we weren't on a tight schedule to get to Queensland we might have stayed on.Â

Off to Parkes today.

Day 2 - Arrival at Hay
Our Queensland Holiday By jasmel05 on16/04/2010 12:00 a.m.
Pulled in to our free camp for the night at Hay after dark so a bit hairy wondering if we would fit and be able to drive in under trees etc.  No problems though, we stayed in the Sandy Point Camp site at Hay.  Too dark to see to much but the site was pretty level and there were several other vans around and still plenty of room for us.  A nice clean toilet and plenty of BBQ / table areas scattered around for use.

Day 2 - Renmark to Hay
Our Queensland Holiday By jasmel05 on16/04/2010 12:00 a.m.
Woke up this morning, everyone happy, the kids loved looking out their window to find an emu looking at them from inside the sanctuary and a monkey cage only a few feet from the van!  Ate a quick breakfast and off towards Hay today.
