Walkamin Central Van Park

Looking for a park in Far North Qld that caters specifically for mature-aged caravanners?
Â

The brand-new Walkamin Central Van Park at Walkamin, roughly halfway between Atherton and Mareeba on the Atherton Tableland (about an hour west of Cairns), is aimed at people aged over 40 and does not cater for tent campers.

At present, the park has the basic facilities that most RVers require. The owners, Lucy Bowyer and Terry McFarlane, will put in more facilities as money becomes available.

The amenities blocks are spotless and new. The two laundries have ample new washing machines, dryers and irons as well as ironing boards. There is also a huge recreation shed for morning and afternoon teas, and a large fireplace where RVers can meet over a roaring fire at night. Various tables, chairs and sofas accommodate groups of happy RVers and there is always a jigsaw on the go. Often a musician or bush poet may be performing here.

The park has several old farming implements spread about and a wonderful old restored car in the shed. Sites are huge and would accommodate the largest RV. Powered and unpowered sites are available and perhaps the best thing is the price – $17 for two people for a powered site and $6 per person for unpowered.

Call the park on (07) 4093 3990 or 0438 932 592.
