Can anyone tell me if broadband covers most of Australia (as in wireless)?

Bigpond wireless broadband covers most of Australia. It is expensive compared to other providers but covers the largest area. We travelled from Perth to the Gold Coast and back and had internet nearly all the way excepting the Nullabor.

We have Optus 3G Wireless at $39.95 per month for 2GB limit. The 3G part (aka "fast") only works around capital cities at present. It6 works well when it's in the right area. As soon as you leave the capital cities it's back to 56K (aka "real slow"). Optus' coverage maps say that they will have improved the range of 3G by the end of the year. At the moment it's pathetic but at least you get a reasonable service coverage albeit slow across the areas that we have been. (Many Vic towns and SA limestone coast thru to Adelaide).

Cheers

Bigpond wireless might be more expensive, but the coverage and speed are great. Get a plan that best suits your requirements. You can get broadband coverage where-ever you get a cell phone signal. If you use all Telstra services, home phone, mobile and wireless Bigpond, get them on one account and apply for good discounts.

Thanks Guys, I've done some research yesterday, telstra want a 3 year contract - $44/month for the first year, reasonable 3Gb allowance, then $89/month for the next 2 years !!! wow that's out of left field.
Thats a whopping average of $74/month over 3 years is coverage really worth that much??
Optus are offering an unbundled 5GB monthly allowance for $50/month with free USB modem - thats a 3year saving of $864 - is coverage everything??
They also have some smaller plans but I'll be working around Australia and need some reasonable degree of access.

Forget the plans offered by the companies like Telstra and Optus, and all the rest. A computer with WiFi is generally all you need to connect to the caravan parks connection, for a very small fee. Also places like McDonalds also have free WiFi in some stores. I really dont like Macs but I will sit there with a cup of their coffee (which is pretty good stuff, by the way) and do my email etc. A lot of caravan parks have either WiFi or connection through the mushrooms for internet access, or if they dont, again for a modest fee, you can use their interner cafe facility. The costs for this varies, but for a couple of $ you can get everything done.
Sure beats the hell out of those expensive plans.
