We also have a Honda 2. My husband has sleep apnoea, and we needed a generator that was quiet enough to be able to be used in national parks (where permitted), but that was also economical, and efficient enough to be able to run the air con in our van as well as his CPAP machine when retiring for the night. The Honda 2 performs beautifully, is very quiet, and we wouldn't have anything else.

Wow MJS, that is impressive.

What battery set up have you got?

Hi Rachel

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you.

We have 1X100AMP deep cycle battery and a 240V charger (by mains or by the car while we are travelling.) Hope this answers your question.

Hi Subi,
If you haven't yet bought a generator then have a look at the latest Kipor generators ( Blue in colour). Supposed to be 7 to 9 dB quiter than any other, has a 15 Amp outlet and produces Pure Sine wave which is what is needed to run todays Switch Mode battery chargers . You can actually hook up a computer straight to the generator outlet and run it without any problems because of the pure sine wave output.

Hi Subi,
We have just purchased a new Kipor 2600 generator (yellow in colour) on
Ebay with great savings $1350 delivered. This model is slightly quieter than the blue one. It will start our airconditioner and run everything in the van at the same time except for the microwave, which is what we thought would happen. Microwave puts too much drain on power outage. Delivery took 4 days we were very happy. eeleyeagle is right on the mark with info too as well as kipor generators are an exact copy of the Honda.
Safe and happy caravanning

the quietest generator on the market is the honda eu20i which the national parks allow to use. they are dearer but will run every thing in a van or camp trailer.

Sorry to say that i think the above information is incorrect. I have never found anything to say that National parks will allow a generator (unless needed for some medical equipement), just thought that I would let you know that in case you had recieved the wrong information. also to MJS witht the type of batteries that you have you should be able to power the cpap machine for your husband and with a solar panel then you would be able to charge the batteries enough to use is whilst camped in a national park. hope this helps

I am inclined to agree with you Helen, re. Nat Parks and generators as they are very strict about it, but perhaps there are exceptions to the norm.

Thanks for the above info. That's what we thought too, so we're having at least one solar panel fitted during the Sept school holidays, possibly two; depending on roof space and expense.
